Your Driving Instructors in Amesbury
I became an instructor as I loved driving and found a lot of joy in teaching in a previous job. I genuinely love the job and a lot of passion for what I do. Outside of this, you’ll find me in the gym, up a mountain or at the side of a lake, trying to catch some large carp.
I’ve been a driving instructor for over 20 years now — how time flies! I still teach with passion and a sense of fun, because I believe we all learn quicker when we’re enjoying ourselves.
Outside of lessons, I’ve recently discovered a love for gardening (I must be getting old!). I have two grown-up children who are now enjoying their independence behind the wheel, which gives me more time for long walks with my dog — and the occasional well-earned holiday.
Amesbury Driving Lessons FAQs
How much lesson time is spent actually driving versus travelling to Salisbury?
The journey to Salisbury and back takes around 30 minutes total, but this is genuine driving practice on real roads. The rest of your lesson is focused practice in Salisbury on test-standard routes. You’re learning throughout the entire lesson, not just being transported.
Where in Amesbury can you pick me up from?
Anywhere that’s convenient for you – town centre, residential areas, Solstice Park direction, wherever suits best. Just let us know your preferred location and we’ll arrange it.
Do you teach in Amesbury itself or only drive to Salisbury?
Both. Early lessons often focus on Amesbury’s roads to build your foundational skills in familiar surroundings. As you progress, we spend more time in Salisbury on test-standard practice. The balance shifts as your ability develops.
Do you offer automatic lessons?
No — we teach manual lessons only.
Do you teach in the evenings or at weekends?
Yes. We offer weekdays and evenings but we don’t currently offer weekend lessons. Our lessons do fill up fast so they’re all subject to availability.
How do I book?
How long is a lesson?
Lessons are booked in 2‑hour blocks (£85).
I failed before with another instructor – can you help?
We can’t promise miracles, but we can promise a different approach. Over 150 five-star reviews say we’re pretty good at this. We’ll figure out what went wrong before, work on the specific issues, and get you test-ready properly. Loads of our students have been through failed tests with other instructors and passed with us.
I’m nervous. Can you help?
Absolutely. We start simple, build confidence, and only add new challenges when you’re ready.

Learning to Drive from Amesbury
Amesbury offers excellent variety for developing your driving skills. The town itself provides good practice for residential driving, roundabouts, and junction work. The proximity to the A303 means you’ll gain experience with faster dual carriageway driving when you’re ready for it.
Most lessons include the journey to and from Salisbury test centre (around 15 minutes each way). This isn’t wasted time. You get practice on real roads with real traffic conditions. You’ll cover A-road driving, junction approaches, and build familiarity with the route you’ll take on test day.
For nervous learners, we often start with quieter residential areas in Amesbury itself. We build your confidence gradually before progressing to busier roads. There’s no fixed timeline. We move at a pace that feels comfortable for you while building the skills you need.
The Salisbury test routes cover a good mix of driving scenarios. Because you’ll practice there regularly throughout your lessons, they’ll feel familiar rather than daunting when it comes to your test.

View All Testimonials“Rich was amazing! After having three driving tests with another instructor I decided to switch to a new one and passed first time with Rich! He was so patient and respectful in every lesson. And his main motto was to teach you how to drive for life not just to pass the test. He’s always a laugh and can make you feel better when needed. I highly recommend!”
“I always looked forward to driving lessons with Rich! He is an amazing instructor who really knows what he’s talking about. The lessons were really well structured, and he was always happy to go back over anything I wasn’t sure about. Had loads of fun learning to drive and passed first time. Thank you!”
“I started driving later in life and have heard “horror stories” about driving instructors from my wife and friends over the years and I can hand on heart say how lucky I am that Rich was my driving instructor.
His mixture of honesty, laughter and firmness (when I really needed it) was exactly what I needed and it helped get my over my initial anxieties about driving. Rich got my through every hurdle and yesterday I passed my driving test the first time round, something I genuinely thought was impossible.
I will miss our time in the car and I would recommend Rich and the passmaster school to anyone learning to drive, whether they be younger or (like me) a little older. Worth every penny and found a mate in the process!”
“Passed first time learning with Rich. He was very patient, and good at tailoring the lessons to match my progress. Overall a great experience”
“I started driving lessons when I was 17, and have gone through 3 other driving instructors but found it just wasn’t the right fit. I’m 21 now and passed my test yesterday, and it was all thanks to Rich. After not driving for almost a year and a half I started again in January with rich and by April I have now passed. And I couldn’t have done it without him. He is genuinely the most lovely guy and puts you so at ease. Any mistakes made he doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable he tells you it’s fine and I would improve and we carry on. He explains everything in a way that you just understand and means you can remember easily. I would recommend Rich to anyone who asked me about driving lessons as I genuinely couldn’t think of anyone better to learn with. And I’ve tried a few… Thank you again, So So much!”
“I was very nervous to start driving and being in the car with a stranger but Rich is patient and funny and really puts worries at ease. He was incredible with me when I would ask blunt or silly questions, always able to talk through things when I didn’t understand. And made time for me months later when I booked a second test and then passed!! 100% recommend him!”
“I had rich as my instructor and he was the best!! He was so patient made leaning to drive so much easier and always had a laugh with him.”
“So grateful I had Rich as my instructor. He’s punctual, organised and an incredible teacher with a calm but informative style. We were on a tight schedule before my test date and he tailored the lessons and progression to my needs and requirements. Would recommend him to anyone. Thanks rich!”
“I had the pleasure of learning to drive with Rich and I could not recommend him enough. From day one he made me feel comfortable and supported. Every lesson was taught incredibly well and with lots of patience. I’m so happy to have passed my test, and it’s all thanks to Rich. If you’re looking for well-paced and fun lessons with highly skilled and friendly instructors, I strongly recommend choosing Passmaster.”
